Concordia University – assist with AAT
May 20, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm CDT
Looking for Therapy Dog Teams to Help Educate Future Animal Assisted Therapy Practitioners!
Concordia University Wisconsin offers an Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) Certificate for professionals who are interested in learning how to effectively incorporate a dog into their practice. The 3rd course, in the series of four, includes the students coming to Concordia’s campus for a weekend, where they practice what they’ve learned so far in the courses. For that weekend, participants will plan for and carry out interventions that are typical for their profession, on simulated patients, incorporating a dog to facilitate the effectiveness of the intervention for the clients.
We are looking for therapy dog teams that might be interested in helping us out with these sessions. This will allow the students to not only learn about how to best incorporate a dog into their practice, but also provides them with the opportunity to practice providing appropriate direction to the handler regarding positioning and activities related to the dog in the session. This provides an invaluable experience for them as they learn how to carry out AAT sessions safely, ethically and effectively.
What: Bring your dog to campus for 1-2 hours to participate in these sessions. If you are interested, there would also be the option of a one 1-hour session before the dates of the sessions to prepare you for the weekend activities.
When: Sat/Sun 5/20-21 (you can choose to participate on just one, or both days on the weekends)
1-2 hours (based on what works best for you and your dog)
Where: Concordia University 12800 N Lake Shore Dr. in Mequon, WI
If you’re interested, please sign up and I’ll share Lois Harrison’s contact information and you can work out the details when you are are available. She’ll work with your schedule.
Thank you for considering, and thank you for the animal assisted activities you are already providing with your dogs!
